We see a lot of startups in the retail technology sector. We talk to a lot of founders at every stage of development. We spend a lot of time with customers and vendors who are thought leaders.

We do all of this with two specific goals:

  • Identify the substantive problems before they become commonly discussed.
  • Identify the next generation of retail technology talent.

You don’t need to be proven to pass our test. Just exceptional. The following companies have passed the very high bar we try to set. It is an understatement to say that we are both humbled and proud to be associated with them.

Inturn First Investor

The first marketplace created to help fashion and lifestyle brands efficiently sell their excess inventory to retailers.

WHY WE LOVE IT

It’s a massive market with global proportions. To date, little technology has been applied to the manual processes and longstanding inefficiencies that cost these companies tens of billions of dollars in lost profits, making this one of the few areas in retail still ripe for its first disruption. Selling end-of-season inventory is a private, often secretive process complicated by a variety of buyers, a global footprint, and the many permutations of bidding. It’s a very hard problem to solve, which we love.

Brickwork Co-Founder

The first software platform to help retailers fully serve the myriad needs of their brick and mortar customers who start the offline shopping experience on their website.

WHY WE LOVE IT

If the majority of retail technology resources had not been focused on eCommerce and Omni-Channel plumbing for the last 10 years, this would have been built long ago.

This team is a clear winner because they understand the power of better serving those brick and mortar shoppers who start the shopping experience online.

Brickwork not only showcases the retailers’ own brand but it enables better collaboration between the online and store teams. State-of-the-art technology addresses this ignored portion of the conversion funnel, and does it across all devices.

PredictSpring First Investor

The first sophisticated and scalable platform for mobile commerce.

WHY WE LOVE IT

For almost every retailer, the amount of traffic generated from mobile devices far exceeds the commerce received from that traffic. The scale of this lost conversion is now massive and, for the first time, not lost on retailers.

Scrambling to address this issue with interim solutions like
‘responsive design’, retailers often only end up jerry-rigging web practices for mobile devices.

Led by a long-time and highly-respected Googler, PredictSpring is building a mobile platform from the ground up, with a single focus on optimizing mobile conversion. PredictSpring is revolutionizing mobile commerce with its dynamic updating capability, fully integrated checkout and deep linking capability.

Reachify Co-Founder

A new way for software vendors to identify prospects and more effectively sell them.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Software contracts are expensive, and picking the right vendor is critically important. Yet there is no way for software companies to identify the best prospects, and for those prospects to identify the best vendors for their needs. Thus the decision-making process is overly expensive, based on incomplete information, and simply challenging.

As a result, vendors innundate prospects with irrelevant communication, and prospects stop responding to vendor sales outreach, making customer acquisition costs extremely high. Reachify is creating the first platform to intelligently connect customers and vendors.

Skip Series Seed

A next generation software and hardware RFID platform that expects to operate 1000x faster and 400x more location precise than existing systems.

WHY WE LOVE IT

RFID promises great efficiency for commerce businesses including retailers, consumer products and casinos. But to date, the existing approaches have not been accurate enough to reliably identify how much inventory exists and locate it exactly. As a result, these systems are often just another system a retailer maintains to manage and count their inventory.

Skip promises to change all that with precise locating powers, greater speed and entirely new categories of ROI that were not possible until this patent pending approach was invented.

Backbone First Investor

A software platform to help fashion and consumer product designers share and communicate changes to their “tech” packages with their factories.

WHY WE LOVE IT

Inventory is one of the largest line items in any apparel or consumer product company’s financial statements. And the lead times for making those items, with few exceptions, have been expanding. Technology can help reduce the time to make goods, as well as identify and help eliminate the human errors that are commonplace in the design process.

Backbone is designed to do just that. It is well positioned to be the system of choice as more and more brands choose to speed their production cycles in the wake of the disproportionate success of fast fashion companies.
